Car Insurance Ford (Car Insurance). Mechanics! How do you unlock your car steering wheel, when it won't shift into gear?Mechanics! How do you unlock your car steering wheel, when it won't shift into gear? Why won't it shift into gear??? It's a Mercedes ml320. Thank you help! There is a solenoid that allows you to shift that is electrically actuated through the brake light switch. It is a 2 part switch. Inside it is wired for 2 functions-brake lights and shift release solenoid. If the fuse blows or the power through the switch does not actuate the solenoid then you won't be able to shift gears. You may have a blown fuse or bad brake light switch. I would bet the switch is bad because it happens quite often. To check the fuse step on the brake and look for brake light illumination. If the lights work then replace the switch is the key in it and turned to on position? steering wheel locks when key is in off and maybe hold the brake as u shift into gear.. if the steering wheel wont unlock u might have ignition switch trouble which will result in wont let u shift ur gear out of park cause its a safety feauture. the ignition has to be on position.. does any of ur lights come on? does the radio turn on? do u turn the key? besides u dont want ur car to shift into gear if the steering wheel wont unlock ... Start, put foot on brake then shift into gear. Have someone check brake lights when you apply brake, if none possible switch on br. pedal bad. If lights work you have shift lock problem. There's usually a shift over ride but you'd have to look in your owners manual to see where and how to release. Brake light switch-if the switch won't trigger, gear shift won't work. Check the brake light fuse. Auto parts : Tap Socket Set Acura 1995 . Tape Alfa Romeo 1996 . Tee Fitting Audi 1997 . Telescoping Mirror BMW 1998 . Temperature Sender Buick 1999 . Tent Cadillac 2000 . Ford . How to Reprogram Audi KeysHeadquartered in Bavaria, Germany, Audi manufactures luxury cars for buyers around the world. One of Audi's luxury features is the distinctive flip key. The flip key opens and closes like a pocket knife (some owners call it a "switchblade key"), and its built-in remote allows you to control the car locks from a distance. These keys will be programmed specifically to your Audi, but they may need a tune up from time to time. You could have your Audi dealer do the reprogramming for you or you could reprogram the keys yourself. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Two Audi keysInstructions Step by Step : 1 Place one of the keys in the ignition and twist it one click forward. This will turn on your car without starting the engine. 2 Exit the car and shut the door. 3 Lock the driver's side door with the second key. Do not use the remote. 4 With the key in the door, press the key's "unlock" button once. The headlights on your Audi will blink twice, but your doors will stay locked. 5 Unlock and re-lock the door with the key. Do not use the remote. 6 Remove the key from the door and the key from the ignition, and check whether the reprogramming was successful. 7 Repeat the process, but switch the keys: put the programmed key in the ignition and, put the unprogrammed key in the door lock. Tips & Warnings Before you exit the car, roll down your window (in case a problem arises). -If your headlights don't blink, try pressing the "unlock" button twice. -If your doors unlock when you press the "unlock" button, lock the door with the key. Then unlock it. ResourcesAudiUSA.com
Ford . How to Reprogram a Ford Focus KeyThe Ford Focus offers keyless entry using a small handheld remote. This "key" (more accurately called the "key fob" or "transmitter") comes preprogrammed from the dealership when you buy the car, but every now and then you might need to reset it. The reprogramming procedure on the Ford Focus is relatively easy once you know exactly what steps to take. If you can turn a key and count to eight, you're already halfway there. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Unlock the doors of your Ford Focus. 2 Insert your metal car key into the ignition and turn it clockwise to the "On" position. 3 Cycle the key between "Off" and "On" eight times in rapid succession, ending at "On." 4 Press any button on your handheld remote. You must do this within 20 seconds or you'll have to do the entire procedure over again. 5 Turn the key in the ignition back to "Off." Tips & Warnings Your remote has a range of about 33 feet, according to Ford. If your remote doesn't work, check the battery; it may require replacement. (The arm is the little lever, not the big one; that's the throttle.) If the lever doesn't move, try pushing it with your finger. If it still doesn't move, it may be caught on something. Try bending it a little to clear the obstruction. If the accelerator pump arm moves freely when someone steps on the gas pedal, take a look down the carburetor barrel to see whether fuel is squirting in when the accelerator pump arm moves. If there's no fuel action, the carburetor probably needs to be rebuilt (which involves taking it apart, cleaning it, and replacing various parts) or replaced. If you need a new carburetor, you may be just as well off getting a cheaper, rebuilt one. The sections "Installing a New or Rebuilt Carburetor" and "What to Do When All Else Fails," later in this chapter, provide your alternatives. Adjusting your accelerator pump arm Some accelerator pumps have more than one hole where the arm hooks up, to enable you to adjust the arm. Adjusting for a shorter stroke (so that the arm moves a shorter distance) gives you a leaner mixture of fuel and air; a longer stroke gives you a richer one. If your accelerator pump arm is moving O 7C Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System when the gas pedal is stepped on, and fuel is squirting into the venturi when the arm is pushed, but you're still having acceleration problems, try adjusting the arm for a longer stroke. If it's idling too fast or too slow, the next section has instructions for adjusting the mechanisms that control it: 1. Hook a tach/dwell meter to the distributor. See the section "Checking your distributor with a dwell meter" in Chapter 12 for details. (A plain tachometer will do, but a dwell meter without a tachometer is useless here.) 2. Remove the air cleaner, following the instructions given earlier in this chapter. 3. Check that rpm reading against the specifications in your owner's manual or a service manual for your vehicle's make, model, and year to see whether the car is idling at the proper rpm. If your car isn't idling at the proper speed, you have to adjust your idle. Adjusting the idle is a simple matter, as explained in the following section. Adjusting idle speed <\V ^ Before you adjust your idle speed, you need to determine whether your vehi "~" cle has an idle speed screw or an idle air bleed screw, and whether it has an idle stop solenoid. If the figures in this section don't help you determine this (Figure 13-11 shows common idle speed screws, and Figure 13-12 shows an idle stop solenoid), either call and ask the service department at your dealership or consult a service manual for your vehicle's make, model, and year. Check your owner's manual to see whether the idle speed should be adjusted with the air cleaner off or on the carburetor. Most cars are adjusted with the air cleaner off. If there's a hose that goes from the carburetor to the air cleaner, plug the hose with a clean, lint-free rag after you remove the air cleaner. 2. Adjust the idle. If you have an idle speed screw (see Figure 13-11): Use a screwdriver to turn the screw until the needle on the tach/dwell meter rests on the proper number of rpm. Turning the screw inward (clockwise) increases idle speed; turning it outward (counterclockwise) decreases it. If you have an idle air bleed screw instead of an idle speed screw: Do exactly the same thing to adjust it.
